Sarajevo
Marking the day of the beginning of the siege of Sarajevo, FAMA Methodology presents the project:
Knowledge Transfer Module
The Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1996
The Art of Survival: Mapping a Besieged City
which summarizes their entire previous work on this topic.
At the end of the 20th century, the city of Sarajevo survived the longest siege in human history. On 5 April 1992, Sarajevo, the capital of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was attacked. On 2 May 1992, the city was completely blockaded.
During the siege it was necessary to establish a balance in the extreme urban conditions of life. This was done by creating simple, normal situations according to one's personal needs. Creativity became a basic necessity. Work was the law of mental and physical survival during the siege.
Following the 21st century radical changes on this planet, FAMA Methodology gives new contributions based on evidence from the siege of Sarajevo experience (1992-1996) to the urgent need to establish a resilience knowledge module – for the sake of terrified individuals and unprepared societies alike.
FAMA Methodology has focused on the art of survival by using the Survival Map, the Oral History (video interviews of the citizens of Sarajevo 1992-1996), thematic publications, photographs, and other materials from their archives that were created during or immediately after the siege. The goal of the project is to contextualize the significant sites and events during the siege, but also personal experiences and stories of the citizens of Sarajevo.
